A 311-page public-source reference guide compiling publicly available information on how Virginia's four-year colleges and universities are addressing generative artificial intelligence in governance, teaching, academic integrity, research ethics, tool provisioning, and strategic planning. Coverage: 30 institutions across three groups: 6 public R1 research universities, 9 other public universities, and 15 private universities and colleges. Evidence snapshot: March 2026.

Each institutional entry follows the same 10-part structure: governance architecture, policy infrastructure, teaching posture, tool ecosystem, academic integrity, research ethics, library signals, strategic investment, executive signaling, and an evidence archive of all cited URLs.

Methodology: research was conducted in two passes between February and March 2026. The first pass surveyed each institution using targeted web searches. The second pass conducted a deeper sweep across 13 mandatory source categories per institution, including academic catalogs, student and faculty handbooks, IT services pages, teaching center archives, library research guides, research office pages, campus news archives (2023–2026), strategic plans, presidential and provost office statements, graduate school policies, and school-level policies. All content is sourced from public institutional websites and official announcements. No internal documents, interviews, non-public data, or behind-authentication materials were used.

The guide is designed as a practical lookup tool for provosts, CIOs, teaching center directors, and faculty governance leaders. It is not a best-practices guide, ranking, or scorecard. It does not evaluate institutional effectiveness, compare institutions, or speculate beyond what public sources state.

This guide is one of several companion reference documents produced from a broader study of 53 American universities and is part of the underlying institutional profiling work for the working paper Governance Without Readiness: How 53 American Universities Responded to Generative AI (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.19647274, version 6.2, April 2026). It stands as an independent reference document.
