Three Rooms is a seventy-year institutional history of the joint school system serving Williamsburg and James City County, 1955 to 2026.

Three Rooms is a seventy-year institutional history of the joint school system serving Williamsburg and James City County, 1955 to 2026. Fourteen contract amendments, a tenfold population imbalance between the participating jurisdictions, the July 25, 2023 closed-session termination vote by the James City County Board of Supervisors, twenty-eight months of breakup, and the three-board signing ceremony on October 10, 2025 that formalized the separation. Draws on public-meeting minutes, verbatim transcripts of deliberations, contract records, and the local press across seven decades.
